In response to COVID-19, Orange County Emergency Medical Services sought our medical deployment expertise to design a field hospital with a capacity for 200 patients. Our team worked with hospital administrators, doctors, public health officials, logisticians, and others to design a mobile medical unit that could be deployed across the region in the event of a disaster or emergency. The medical deployment requirements for this project included separate entrances for staff and patients, the flexibility to divide up the 48 total shelters into smaller field hospitals if needed, and custom cargo trailers.
We developed a multi-purpose trailer system outfitted with lighting doors to accommodate the request that trailers have the capacity to convert into a split X-ray bay and pharmacy or a staff meeting area. Our main obstacle with this project was supply chain and transportation disruptions that resulted from the pandemic, but we met the deadline and had teams on the ground to help deploy the first shelters DLX shelters at UCI Medical Center just before Christmas, 2020.
