ODHS, DEPLOYED LOGIX AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE PARTNERS COMPLETE ABLE READINESS 8 PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 22, 2026

Salem, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Human Services Office of Resilience and Emergency Management (ODHS OREM), Deployed Logix, the Oregon Disaster Air Response Team and the Civil Air Patrol participated in Able Readiness 8, a multi-agency emergency preparedness exercise held June 13 and 14, 2026.

The exercise simulated a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami scenario and tested how state agencies, private-sector partners and volunteer organizations coordinate to move equipment, supplies and personnel to coastal emergency evacuation assembly points.

During the exercise, equipment, supplies and personnel were staged at the Creswell and McMinnville airports before being deployed to emergency evacuation assembly points at the Newport and Tillamook airports. The exercise helped participating organizations test coordination, logistics, equipment readiness and shelter setup procedures that may be needed after a major disaster.

“A Cascadia earthquake would require many partners working together quickly to support communities across Oregon,” said Ed Flick, director of the ODHS Office of Resilience and Emergency Management. “Exercises like Able Readiness 8 help us build relationships, test our systems and identify what we can improve before an emergency happens. We are grateful for the partnership of Deployed Logix, the Oregon Disaster Air Response Team, the Civil Air Patrol and local partners who helped make this exercise successful.”

Deployed Logix supported the exercise by providing training on the setup and maintenance of emergency shelter systems. The company has worked with OREM to provide equipment and training for communities on the Oregon Coast, including support for emergency evacuation assembly points.

“Preparedness is strongest when public agencies, local communities, volunteers and private-sector partners train together before a disaster,” said JJ Urhausen, President and Founder at Deployed Logix. “We were proud to participate in Able Readiness 8 and support the work Oregon is doing to prepare for a Cascadia earthquake and tsunami.”

Oregon faces the ongoing risk of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami that could disrupt transportation, power, communications and access to basic needs across large parts of the state. Exercises like Able Readiness 8 help Oregon strengthen coordination and prepare to support communities after a major disaster.

ODHS OREM coordinates with government and non-governmental partners to support mass care during emergencies, including food, shelter, first aid, human services coordination and other supports for people affected by disasters.
